Luxury at Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort

Puerto Penasco, Mexico or Rocky Point as we Americans call it, was a sleepy little fishing village until U.S. tourists discovered it in the early 1990s. Since then it has grown into a full-fledged vacation destination for travelers from all over the world. There are several resorts dotting the beach, but the most luxurious of all is the renowned Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort.

Luxury means different things to different people, but Las Palomas seems to cover them all. Ease of booking is one sign that a property has gotten customer service right and nothing is easier than booking a stay through Las-Palomas-Resort.com. The site is easy to navigate, the prices are definitely reasonable, and if you have any questions whatsoever, just shoot them an e-mail or give them a call. The staff speaks English well and is extremely knowledgeable and courteous.

Another common qualifier of luxury is food and food service. Las Palomas has two fine dining restaurants where I found the food to be extraordinary. If I felt like Mexican, it was the best Mexican food to be had in all of Rocky Point. But, if I felt like French or Mediterranean, that was available too and just as delicious.

The rooms at Las Palomas are impeccable. They have a variety of room styles to choose from. If you’re on your honeymoon or a romantic getaway for two, their honey suite is beautiful! If you are taking children with you and would like some privacy for yourself, multiple bedroom units are available.

For me, the mark of a resorts luxury is their pool. Las Palomas has five cascading pools that are just steps from the beach. Around them is a canal that floats lazily in circles that you can float. I spent a whole day in a beach chair just watching the tide go out and come in. So gloriously lazy and my true definition of luxury!

Check the property out at Las-Palomas-Resort.com. You’ll be amazed that such elegance is so affordable.

Whether you are new to scuba diving or simply looking for new destinations, the following places are widely regarded as the best diving locations in the world.

Cenote Taj Maja, Mexico

Spending a week or two in Mexico is common for north Americans especially for Canadians. Canadians love trips in Mexico.  Underneath Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula lies pockets of mesmerizing sinkholes, called cenotes, that carve their way through the area’s limestone bedrock. The Cenote Taj Maja is the most well-known of all, making it a popular destination for divers in search of a completely unique experience. The 60-foot wide Cenote Taj Maja, located south of Playa del Carmen, leads divers through a vast network of underwater caves. Here, divers can experience a surreal underwater experience, witnessing stalagmites and stalactites when coming up from the still crystal clear waters. Even more interesting is the mirror-like halocline effect that divers experience from the combining of freshwater from above and the saltwater that seeps in from below.

Fiji Islands, South Pacific

Known as the “Soft Coral Capital of the World,” and home to the underwater phenomena of the “Yellow Tunnel” and “Great White Wall,” Fiji provides scuba divers with a one-of-a-kind diving experience. The waters off the coast of the Fiji Islands offer divers unparalleled visibility and a terrific array of coral and fish species.

Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands

Best known for their use as a nuclear testing ground in the 1940’s and 50’s, the Bikini Atoll is one of the best destinations in the world for wreck diving. With radiation now at safe levels, this lagoon that is surrounded by 36 small South Pacific islands is rapidly increasing in popularity. Here, divers can descend 100 feet into the lagoon and explore an immense ship graveyard. There are an abundance of sunken ships to explore, but many are huge WWII vessels that even have their guns and ordinance still in place. The crystal clear Pacific waters make discovering these relics from a bygone era extremely easy, as visibility is very good.

Cozumel, Mexico

The island of Cozumel, just off the Mayan coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, has been a popular diving destination for years. The clear waters surrounding the island afford divers the ability to see upwards of 200 feet in all directions, which makes exploring the 19 dive reefs and their abundant marine life extremely easy. The island itself is home to dozens of quality dive shops, friendly locals, and a terrific nightlife.

Utila Island, Honduras

Located off the Honduran coast and on the southern end of the 450 mile long Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the island of Utila is surrounded by terrific dive spots. A plethora of fish species can be witnessed here year-round, but most divers prefer to come in the spring and fall months, when whale sharks are known to travel through the area. Swimming next to one of these gentle giants is an experience of a lifetime.
