Bali is the ideal family holiday destination. Don’t think of crying, whining kids and arguments over what to do or how to get there because in Bali, there is something to suit every member of the family (and friendly, helpful drivers!). Bali offers an extensive range of accommodation and activity options so that everyone in the family goes home with happy holiday memories.
What To Do
Secure in the knowledge that the children are having the time of their lives in the kids club, parents are free to experience the best Bali has to offer by day. Hire a car and spend a day in beautiful, peaceful Ubud (about an hour’s drive from Legion). Check out the local wooden artifacts and handicrafts and experience the Sacred Monkey Forest of Padangtal. Treat yourself to an Ayuvedic beauty treatment and yoga class at Yoga Barn or a class and spa treatment at Tuksu. Relax into the gentler Ubud vibe.
Bali family holidays mean hair braids and relaxing massages on the beach. After that, take the time to explore the stores, where you’re sure to find a bargain or two, including sequin bags, sarongs, hand-crafted jewellery, shells, souvenirs, ornaments, lamps, t-shirts, shoes and gadgets. Bali prices are so reasonable that you can shop by the adage, “See it, like it, buy it”. Many of the products in stores have fixed prices but remember to smile and barter to get the best prices from street sellers (and be wary of morning prices and afternoon prices – sometimes there’s a difference!).
Where to Stay
Short holidays are easily planned, especially when considering all-inclusive packages. Look for a package that includes all accommodation, meals and activities. The kids clubs in Bali are famous for their top facilities, friendly staff and entertaining programs for children. One of the best known kids clubs in Bali is the Kupu-Kupu Kiddies Club (kupu-kupu means “butterfly” in Balinese), located within the Bali Dynasty Resort in South Kuta, which boasts a 56m waterslide, kids and babies pools, an outdoor play area and an air-conditioned “enchanted garden” themed interior. Professional and friendly, approachable kids club staff introduce Balinese culture through fun games and art and craft activities, as well as offering sports and other indoor and outdoor activities to keep the children entertained while the adults play!
Where to Eat
You’ll find there are some great dining options for family dinners, at any one of the restaurants in or near your accommodation. Try the first-rate Poppies Restaurant (choose from three locations, in Kuta, Kopi Pot and Strawberry Hill) or try the lively Warung 96 for generous Western style meals. For something completely different, head to the spectacular tent-shaped Moroccan restaurant, Khaima, located in Oberoi. Every Friday and Saturday night, your Arabic experience in Bali is enhanced by the presence of bellydancers, entertaining after 9pm. Take advantage of the child minding services back at your resort and then return to Kuta, where all the adult action is, for a great night out.
